The year 2021 kicked off with an unusal trend of people sharing videos of themselves singing Sea Shanties on Tik Tok.

A sea shanty is a traditional folk song sung on large ships by sailors and merchants. Sea shanties were fun, rhythmic songs typically performed while performing heavy and repetitive tasks like hoisting sails and scrubbing decks.

I worked with GravityAI, an San Diego based AI startup, to build an AI that can generate sea shanty lyrics. Samples of the generated lyrics were then shared with a musician who then used it to produce a witty musical.
